Inlaks Scholarship – A must know!

While most of the institutes or foundations that involve themselves in philanthropic activities provide scholarships or grants for courses of Management, Engineering, Computer Science and Masters in Public Health, Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation is one such Foundation that is concentrating on courses where there is relatively less support available. The mission of Inlaks Foundation is to tap the unprecedented talent among the youth and to extend them required assistance to develop the talent further by pursuing studies abroad, so that they are later on able to operate in the society and are made a future vehicle of change in the environment.

Inlaks Scholarship for University Courses & Specific Programs

 

In order to accomplish its disparate mission, the Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation provides two types of scholarships, scholarships for university courses and scholarships for specific programs-

 

 

  • INLAKS SCHOLARSHIP FOR UNIVERSITY COURSES-

The Inlaks Scholarship for University Courses is specific for the top American, European and UK institutions. The Foundation has joint scholarship schemes with Imperial College, London, Royal College of Art (RCA), London, School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), London, Cambridge Trust, Cambridge and SciencesPo, Paris.

As specified earlier, the Foundation does not give scholarships in the following subjects: Engineering, Computer Science, Business Studies, Medicine, Public Health, Fashion Design, Music and Film Animation. However in the case of Imperial College, London, scholarships will be given for Engineering and Computer Science.

  • INLAKS SCHOLARSHIPS FOR SPECIFIC PROGRAMS-

These scholarships are provided for taking up courses abroad, either independently or attached to a leading institution and not leading to a degree, as proposed by you, in the fields of research, training or professional development. You need to provide full details of your proposed programs, including time and travelling plans, a full breakdown of costs, and evidence of agreement with such institutions, if required.

Eligibility Criteria for the Inlaks Scholarship-

  1. The scholarship is awarded to all the Indian citizens; you must be a resident of the country at the time of application.
  2. You are expected to hold a good first degree from a recognized university in India.
  3. If you have a postgraduate degree (e.g. Master’s or PhD) from a university outside India, you are not eligible; if you have started but not completed a postgraduate degree outside India, you are also ineligible.
  4. You must have prior admission to the institution and course chosen. The Foundation will not consider you without admission or pending admission. The institutions concerned must only be top rank.
  5. You must be below 30 years of age on the first of July in the year of application. If you are already studying or have started your program abroad, you are not eligible.

Terms of the Inlaks Scholarship-

  • The scholarship provides funds up to US$ 1, 00,000 only, covering your tuition fees, living expenses and one-way travel. But, in case the total funding exceeds US$1, 00,000, you need to show complete evidence during the interview that is conducted in May/June, that you have the ability to cover full funding of your course, as the Foundation doesn’t cover candidates that are not fully funded. For scholarships for specific programs, the financial coverage is discussed with you.
  • Scholarship is not awarded to you if your proposed course of study or specific project requires field trips back to India during tenure.
  • Scholarships are awarded in May/June generally for commencement in subsequent September and October. Any scholarship not commenced within 9 months will be forfeited.

Selection Procedure for Inlaks Scholarship-

The selection procedure for the Inlaks Scholarship is a 3 stage process; it can be explained as below-

  1. You first need to fill in the application form and send it to the specified address along with the required documents. These applications are analyzed and evaluated and the most interesting candidates are called for an interview.
  2. There are two rounds of interviews; the selected applicants need to sit for a preliminary interview round.
  3. This step is exclusive for the candidates who are selected in the preliminary round of interview; they need to sit for a final interview round.

NOTE: – The interviews are conducted in May or June, in Mumbai or Delhi, you must be available for the interviews and you also need to make arrangements for your own accommodation and travel for the interviews. In case, you don’t receive any communication by 1st June, you must assume that your applications have not been successful.
