SHDF Scholarships are offered by Sikh Human Development Foundation, U.S.A (SHDF) and Nishkam Sikh Welfare Council (Regd.), New Delhi to students pursuing regular professional courses like  Engineering, IT, Computer Science, Medical, Nursing, Home Science, Architecture, Agriculture, Business Management, B.Ed., Journalism, CA etc. from recognized universities located in India.

The main objective of SHDF Scholarship programme is to support bright undergraduate students who aspire to achieve excellence in their respective field. Under Nishkam Sikh Welfare Council Scholarships scheme each student in entitled to receive scholarship amount up to Rs. 24000/- per annum. The SHDF scholarship  also has provision to grant incentives to toppers undergoing professional courses depending on the financial needs demonstrated by them. Nishkam scholarship scheme is annually renewable until the completion of course.

Every year Nishkam Sikh welfare Council invites applications for SHDF Scholarship from eligible students in the month of March through advertisements in the newspaper and through their website. Students have to undergo written test followed by an interview in order to qualify for SHDF Scholarships.

Presently, Nishkam Sikh Welfare Council implements this scheme in Northern part of India i.e in the states of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir and Chandigarh besides Delhi


SHDF Scholarships are available only for pursuing a professional diploma, degree or postgraduate courses from government recognised institution/University in India. The term professional course includes engineering, architecture, IT , MBA, agriculture, MBBS, nursing, pharmacy, BEd, home science, agriculture, animal husbandry and the like. Students appearing for 12th class exam (The academic year 2017-18) can also apply and appear for written test and interview, but the scholarship will be allotted, if found eligible, only on getting admission in technical courses in government recognized institute.

  • The candidate must have secured at least 60% marks in last year semester’s examination
  • The total family income of applicant must not exceed an average of Rs. 12500/- per month ( i.e. Rs. 1,50,000 annually)
  • The candidate must have an active e-mail account and mobile number so that Nishkam Sikh Welfare Council can communicate with them

Note: Eligible students will have to take a written test in Punjabi & Moral Science during August/September, 2017 at any of the seven Centres namely New Delhi, Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Faridkot, Moga, Bathinda and Amritsar (Details to be notified later).

Scholarship Amount Details

Up to Rs. 27,000 per year per student plus Incentives up to Rs. 3,000 to Toppers / Position Holders


This is a five step process. 
First- Download the prescribed Application Form, from Nishkam’s website. 
Second-Obtain and arrange requisite documents to be submitted along with the application as per the details given on the first page. 
Third- Fill up the application in all respects  (with no dots and blanks), and send it(by post or mail ) along with attested photocopies of all certificates, acknowledgement of paid fees and other requisite documents so as to reach Nishkam office in New Delhi latest by 30th July, 2017. Forms which are incomplete or received after the due date will not be accepted.

Fourth- Applicants, whose forms are found complete in all respects, will present himself/herself for written Punjabi and Moral Science test to be conducted by Nishkam at his/her own cost. (examination venue, time and date will be intimated to candidate well in advance through Nishkams website). The hall ticket for written test will be sent via email and not by post or courier. The hall ticket will contain all important details of exam such as venue, date, time etc.

Fifth: Candidates clearing the exam will be called for personal interview. The candidates should present themselves before the Nishkam Sikh Welfare Council interview board at their own expense. The venue, date and time for an interview will be intimated later on.

Attach subsequent documents along with duly filled-in and signed application form:

  1. Three good quality coloured recent passport size photographs( paste two photographs at appropriate place in application form and enclose ONE with your name written on the backside of it in an envelope to be attached to the form)
  2. Self-attested Copies of Mark sheets of 10th, 12th exam & later exam, if any
  3. DMC /Attested Gazette (for Examinations passed during Apr. 2016 to Mar. 2017) of professional courses.
  4. Self-attested copies of fees receipts paid for the academic year 2017-18. No handwritten Receipts will be accepted
  5. Photocopy of Death certificate(s), if father/mother is not alive.
  6. Proof of household income (both parents): - Attach attested copy of latest income tax return/ employer certificate/pension certificate indicating annual income, original and valid certificate issued by Tehsildar or village Sarpanch (stating yearly income and agriculture land’s acreage). For daily wage workers, small individual shopkeepers, self-employed individuals, provide an original affidavit, stating income from all valid sources as per the appropriate format mentioned on the site.

Scholarship application form filled in all respects with all requisite documents should be sent to Nishkam Sikh Welfare Council (Regd.), Nishkam Bhawan, B-Block, Tilak Vihar, New Delhi-110018” by speed/registered post or courier by subscribing  SHDF Scholarships-2017 at the top of the envelope containing application and must reach Nishkam Office latest by 30th July 2017 (1700 Hrs.). Applications received after the last date will be summarily rejected.
