Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE) is a component scheme under Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE), which is a flagship programme of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. It aims to engage young talents for the study of Science and Technology and pursue research as a career and to augment youth to undertake higher education in Science intensive courses by providing scholarships to deserving students.
Under this scheme SHE, 10,000 scholarships, each valued at Rs. 80,000/- are announced annually for students pursuing Bachelors and Masters level courses in Basic and Natural Sciences.
The following subjects under Basic and Natural Sciences are within the scope of INSPIRE Scholarship for pursuing BSc/BS/Int. MSc/Int. MS course: 2 (1) Physics, (2) Chemistry, (3) Mathematics, (4) Biology, (5) Statistics, (6) Geology, (7) Astrophysics, (8) Astronomy, (9) Electronics, (10) Botany, (11) Zoology, (12) Biochemistry, (13) Anthropology, (14) Microbiology, (15) Geophysics, (16) Geochemistry, (17) Atmospheric Sciences & (18) Oceanic Sciences.
Only candidates who have completed their XII standard in the year 2013 and are currently enrolled in BSc, BS, Int. MSc/MS degrees, in Natural and Basic Sciences (in subjects listed above) can apply.

1.The student must be enrolled into the aforementioned BSc, BS, Int. MSc/Int.MS courses before applying for INSPIRE Scholarship.
2.Students with aggregate marks within top 1% of their Class XII examination of any State/ Central Board in India are eligible. In addition, the student must be pursuing courses in Natural and Basic Sciences at the BSc, BS, and Int.MSc/MS level.
3.Those students who have secured ranks in the JEE of IIT, AIPMT (within top 10000 ranks), and are presently pursuing Natural and Basic
Science courses in India at the BSc, BS, Int.MSc/MS level.
4.Students pursuing Integrated M.S. courses at IISERs, NISER and Department of Atomic Energy Centre for Basic Sciences, Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY), National Talent Search Examination (NTSE), Jagadish Bose National Science Talent Search (JBNSTS) scholars and International Olympiad medalists pursuing Bachelor/ Master level courses in Natural Sciences.
Note : Inspire Scholarship are available for onlty those students who are pursuing Bachelor and Master level education in 18 subjects such as (1) Physics, (2) Chemistry, (3) Mathematics, (4) Biology, (5) Statistics, (6) Geology, (7) Astrophysics, (8) Astronomy, (9) Electronics, (10) Botany, (11) Zoology, (12) Bio-chemistry, (13) Anthropology, (14) Microbiology, (15) Geophysics, (16) Geochemistry, (17) Atmospheric Sciences and (18) Oceanic Sciences.
Online application for scholarship will open from 15th November 2016 (10-00 hrs) and will be available upto 15th January 2017 (17:00 hrs) for submission of applications.
1. Each Inspire Scholarship awardee is entitled to get Rs.80,000 pa for a maximum periodof 5 years which is alloted in the following way:
a. Each candidate will receive annual scholarship @ total value of Rs. 60,000/- in cash.
b. All the SHE scholars are required to undertake summer research projects under an active researcher in any recognized research centers across India. A summer time attachment fee of Rs. 20,000/- will be paid as Mentorship every year.
1. The application form for Inspire scholarship has to be sumitted online.
2. The online application form along with all require details is available on the official website of Department of Science & Technology.
3. The application form has to be filled online through Six steps.
STEP 1:NEW USER REGISTRATION.
The applicant hasto first register on the website. During registration the applicant is expected to fill all necessary details such as Email, Name, Dateof birth, Verification code(CAPTCHA) etc.
STEP II: SCAN AND SAVE THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS.
Following documents has to be uploaded during the "online application process"
1.Passport size photograph
2.Community/Caste Certificate (only if the applicant belongs to OBC/SC/ST)
3.Eligibility Note/Advisory Note if provided by the State/Central Board
4.Class XII Mark sheet
5.Class X Mark sheet or Certificate (for proof of Date of Birth)
6.Certificate specifying Rank or Award in JEE (Main)/ JEE (Advanced)/ NEET/ KVPY /JBNSTS/ NTSE/ International Olympic Medallists [If the candidate is eligible under this criteria]
7.Endorsement Form signed by the Principal of the College/Director of the Institute/Registrar of the University
8.Any other supporting documents
STEP III: ONLINE APPLICATION.
a.LOG IN to the portal by entering the registered email id as user name and the registered password.
b.A screen will appear where you have to click ‘Scholarship’ link.
c.After clicking on ‘Scholarship’ link, please click the button ‘Apply for scholarship'
d.Fill in the fields one by one by clicking the EDIT button.
STEP IV: ONLINE APPLICATION.
Fill personal details, enter information about Bsc and Int. Msc Level courses, detailed information about Senior Secondary Examination and upload all scanned documents along with photograph.
Click Submit button.
Once you click the SUBMIT Button, a page will appear mentioning that your application has been submitted successfully. A reference number will also be mentioned which shall be used for any communication.
If any applicant does not submit his/her application form, it will be rejected as incomplete application.
Take a print out of the submitted application and send the same to The Director, National Institute of Science, Technology & Development Studies (NISTADS), Dr K S Krishnan Marg, New Delhi - 110012 by Ordinary Post only, on or before 9th December 2013
One can view the status of the application by entering the Application Reference Number in the portal. All applicants selected for the INSPIRE Scholarship shall be informed by an Email notification sent to the registered Email id.
